9月20日 Pensacola NAS SpousesPensacola Naval Air Station Day of Pampering For Military Wives
What a great day! Yesterday I was honored to participate in this event at the naval base here in Pensacola. It was a day designed to show the women living here while their husbands are away serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and maybe other locations, our appreciation and support. Once inside the base, we passed a large area of white stones marking the graves of so many who have served here. Being relatively new to the area, I had not seen this part of the base before, and it was a humbling view. Upon our arrival, we were thrilled to see - and hear - the Blue Angels doing their practice over our heads! I am proud to join the people in the Pensacola area to call them Our Blue Angels! The building where the event was held also made me proud to be an American - proud that we provide such a beautiful place for the men and women serving our country. Many members of the military, from the chaplain to officers in various positions of command stopped in to see how things were going. Every single person we met or talked to made US feel welcome and appreciated when we were there to do that for them! If you were invited to participate in this event either by attending or by sharing your pampering skills, thank you for coming! If you missed it, don't miss the next one! 9月2日 Exceptional Day at the BeachWe were at the beach by 10:30 this morning. Even though it was cloudy at our house,we decided to take a chance on the weather being great at the beach. And, lucky for us, it was sunny and beautiful! We started at the east end of Pensacola Beach by the Portofino Resort. The sand there is white and soft, and it squeaks or "sings" when you walk in it because of the quartz from the Appalachian Mountains that works its way down the rivers to the Gulf of Mexico. Honestly, if you didn't know you were in Pensacola, you would have thought you were in the Caribbean! People walking on the beach even stopped us to talk about its exceptional beauty today. The water was so clear and aqua in color- like the water in our pool. The ocean was shallow very far out so we walked out and enjoyed the gentle waves of a green flag day. It was the most beautiful beach day we've had since we moved here.
But, since that area of soft clean sand is not great for shelling, we moved to the west end of the beach after an hour or so. The best shelling today was in the water close to the beach. The waves were not big enough to interfere with shelling, and since it was really hot today, it was great to be in the water! Since it's Labor Day weekend, there were lots of people at Casino Beach, the main beach area, and at the Portofino Boardwalk. A Jamaican Festival is being held there this weekend with lots of music and other entertainment. If you haven't been to Pensacola Beach, it's the closest thing to being in the Caribbean without the expense of going there! 8月23日 Beth's Beach DelightWhy do you need this recipe? 1. It's always a hit. 2. It's easy. 3. It cooks while you are gone to the beach.
"Beth's Beach Delight"
Spray slow cooker with Pam or a similar product, or use a Crock Pot Liner.
3 cans of soup - Cream of Mushroom, Cream of Onion, and Golden Mushroom - or your choice of soups.
Mix together in a medium sized bowl. Don't add any liquid.
3 lbs of pork, like loin chops or a sliced pork tenderloin - chicken would be good too.
Open the meat package and place meat in Crock Pot, layering soup around the meat.
Cook on Low heat for 8 hours or so. Stir occasionally if you are home.
This recipe makes a good gravy to serve with the meat and butter potatoes or rice. Add a frozen veggie steamed in the microwave(for ease and fresh taste), a salad from a bag, and fresh rolls, and you have a great, easy meal after a day at the beach!
Thanks to my friend Diane who shared her recipe, "Diane's Desert Delight," with me.
8月20日 The WeekendWe saw The Bourne Ultimatum on Friday, and it was great - you should see it. We haven't gone to the show since last Christmas, but this one was worth it! Got in the 88 degrees pool for a while, then headed to the beach - to do what? you might ask. Yep, more shelling. Found a great vein of shells and sat there digging for 4 hours until sunset. Found lots of Fighting Conchs. Went to Peg Leg Pete's at Pensacola Beach and ran into our cohorts from KC, Bobby and Lindsey. So we joined them at their table out on the deck and had a great evening!
8月17日 Living in PensacolaPensacola Observation ~
Around Pensacola the majority of females in middle/high school and older do not wear shorts. When it comes to casual apparel, capris, cropped, or full length pants or jeans are seen on most girls/women even on days when the heat index is 117 degrees. I wonder what causes them to make that choice.
I need to go shopping!!
Thanks for visiting my Space today! Please sign my guestbook before you leave ~ and ~ Ya'll come back now, ya hear?!
